Hey folks, Rob here.![]()
The second weekend of our Scarborough Faire run brings us to a rain day.
Rain days are the secret of faire that only the die hard faire goers know about. You see, for all it’s potential for spontenaeity there is a lot about the faire day that is the same weekend after weekend. On rain days, though, that all changes and just about anything can happen.
Zero crowds early sunday morning led to no 11:30 show. At 1:30 the crowds were still light so I decided, well lets just have a live rehearsal. Our two guests for that show had not been able to make it to any of our pre-season practices so they didn’t know the new games we were playing so we took that chance to teach them, live, in front of everyone.
They did awesome!
The casual, relaxed nature put everyone at ease and by the end we were doing a real show. Got lots of props afterward too. Several folks told us it was the best show of ours they’d ever seen. Pretty good for something that started off as a non-show.
The sun came out for our last two shows of the day; and, we did bring out the water balloons but, we tried to maintain that same casual nature from earlier.
It was a great learning experience all around I think. I hope we can maintain it moving foward.
I hope more of you get a chance to witness it too.
And remember if you’re a fair weather faire goer, rain days are magic days.
